The September Issue.

"Gird your loins" says Nigel (Stanley Tucci) on Devil Wears Prada.

Let me just tell you that I nearly fell out of my movie seat while watching the preview for Anna Wintour herself in "September Issue" for two reasons.

1) Such an icon playing herself in this fabulous flick!

2) Someone behind me said "Oh, they're copying Devil Wears Prada!"

I die. Ba-nanas.

What are you talking about they copied DWP. The movie is modeled after Ms. Wintour, editor in chief of Vogue, because "it was decided" to be so, from her father. The film by R. J. Cutler is based on the 840 page September issue sent to press which marks the "January of fashion" weighing in at 5 pounds.

So. back to fashion week. What was the kick off? Fashion night out. And a supposed Stimulus package? Sure, why not.

"New York City, for one night, seemed to forget that there was a recession."

Stores stayed open till 11 pm to promote shopping as the kick off for fashion week. Icons like Ms. Wintour, Michael Kors, Diane Von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, and celebrities like Sean Combs, Gwen Stefani, Justin Timberlake, and Kate Hudson made their presence at the stores as well. For many, the display of iconic support was enough to encourage them to open their pocketbooks and ignore their electric bill. For many, it was not. The hope is to "stimulate" the fashion industry, which in NYC alone, is a $10 billion industry employing roughly 175,000 people!

Ms. Wintour (also known as 'Nuclear Wintour') exclaimed that the evening was "bigger than our wildest dreams".

Another topic not aforementioned in the fashion world was budgeting. (YES! Budgeting!) Designers are making smarter decisions when procuring materials for their designs and trying to shave costs as much as possible. The struggle for them is to do this without losing what they do as a designer.

Passion for Fashion.

I completely forgot to post about this. How could I?! Don't tell the fashion gods.

Today marks the start of Fashion Week 2010. It will run through the 17th. Oh, don't you wish you were there?

How should you stay current on the shows?

Stay tuned and we'll discuss our favorite shows as we drool from across the country :)

I can't help but wonder...what is Anna doing right now?

"This is why New York has become the most relevant fashion capital in the world. Because we respect not only the established designers but also the up-and-coming ones..."

Sites around town.

Excuuuuse me I'm finding some neat sites lately.

not too fond of pink antlers or smokey the bear..
wonder what room I would send in....
mmmmmm book shelves...
ahh fashion, hello.

Someday I'd like to have the following items among my possessions:

I like it when blogs are like the writer speaking to their best friends

*Says my cousin, Julie. I hope you feel that way about my posts! I really just post what comes to mind, what I like in case you like it, etc.

This was my breakfast, and let me tell you it was good! Looks and tastes similar to Cap'n Crunch only organic! Gotta love Kashi..

Eggs take too long and I'm still burnt out on oatmeal...any breakfast suggestions to pass along?

Also let's just have a good morning post for my cousin-in-law Chris who's night stands are featured on Mecox's site. Holla! He is a talented furniture maker in Houston, TX.

(PS he also made my beloved desk. See below for a reminder pic, modeled after Nelson's Swag desk).

Tuesday morning blues comes on Wednesday this week.

Having Monday off has its perks:
-Went to Walmart to buy matching hangars
-Went to see The Proposal during the afternoon
-Slept in

But, when you arrive to work on Tuesday you have these illusions you will feel refreshed and recharged and ready to take on the week...not so. The Monday roadblocks just came a day late-on Tuesday. I had a hard time fighting them off so I can continue to have a productive week.

Today, hump day already, I look to Audrey for wisdom. It was suggested in the "What would Audrey do?" book I received for my birthday that the following advice be taped to your mirror for a daily reminder from her:

I decided, very early on, just to accept life unconditionally; I never expected it to do anything special for me, yet I seemed to accomplish far more than I had ever hoped. Most of the time it just happened to me without my ever seeking it.

If we're trying too hard to find something, will we see it coming?

My friends know what I like. Birthday presents!

Thought I'd share my birthday presents with you.

(1) Shoes from Luli (DSW, Steve Madden):

(2) Birthday book from Sara:
(3) Another Audrey book from Vee (for my coffee table)
(4) A present to myself. Thank you Lula B's for my Goyard laptop bag:

(5) sweater dress from Club Monaco from mom and dad-it is MOST SIMILAR to this except short sleeves, cowl kneck.

(6) Various gift certificates. Let's just say I'll be getting a massage, manicure, and hair cut very soon!
(7) IPhone charger from Brookstone.
Overall, I'd say it was a fantastic birthday. Spent time with friends and family, drinking wine, eating Italian, and laying by the pool. Not only am I glad to be alive, but I think this year is going to be a fantastic year!

How to get back to business after a three-day weekend.

So I should be continuing on with the closet theme, but let's be honest, I feel like everyone does right now. Ugh! Back here again? (here=work). I'm working on a good attitude and a spring in my step as I welcome the new week. My birthday was over the weekend so I probably celebrated too much :)

-Wear a comfortable outfit today. I chose a navy sweater dress from Club Monaco (mom gave it to me for my birthday!) paired with adorable flesh colored heels (Luli gave them to me for my birthday!) and yellow rose earrings.

-Don't put too much on your plate today. Set goals, smaller ones, and achieve them.

-Have a warm beverage on your desk. Today I chose Kava Stress Relief Tea for obvious reasons. Apparently it's one of the things that may help you overcome a panic attack-I'll take that!

-Listen to some tunes. Today I choose Imogen Heap's new album.

-Get outdoors at some point. I plan on going fast walking after work. (I do not run usually...)

-Get to bed early so tomorrow is less difficult : )

I'll get back to closets next week, including where to stow belts, "going out" tops, and shorts, plus the hangers I bought and why.
