They are hand made in Burkina Faso, a landlocked country in West Africa. I bought them at a teeny gift shop in SA at the Waterfront!

Affordable fashion.
Where do I go? South Africa of course!!! Well, at least that is where I got my market-weaver's bracelets. Madewell is now selling these for only $10. (I have to admit I bought 6 for under $20 in Africa, but who can get there on a whim?)

OOTO
You heard me. I'm out of the office...and out of commission. Leaving on a (few) (long) jet plane(s) to Africa....
In my absence, go ahead and buy the new Radiohead album. Things like this don't happen every day..
See you in a week...maybe?

NY FW
One day I would really really like to be in attendance at fashion week.
Doesn't it look fabulous?
This time, I'll settle with a trip to Africa.

Tsonga
During my time in South Africa, my cousin took me to a Tsonga shop near the Wine lands. Tsonga is a hand made leather (shoes & accessories) brand that began in South Africa, everything crafted by the Zulu women by hand. Tsonga created the program Thread of Hope to "empower and uplift a community of women in KwaZulu-Natal midlands in South Africa".

The Thread of Hope site tells their mission strait forwardly: to turn their abilities into real futures for their children. The women of Tsonga have their story (and dreams) told on the TOH site. I was touched by their story and wanted to support them.
I bought a pair of shoes and some small Elle wallets for gifts.
